Inside the Grade: Building a Look That Serves the Story
Why our color sessions start with a sentence about the film, not a LUT, and how a restrained grade keeps footage timeless.

Iris Moreau
Lead Editor & Colorist

It is tempting to open a grade with a favorite look and push every shot toward it. We do the opposite: before touching a wheel, we write one sentence about how the film should feel.
Balance first, style second
Every shot gets matched and balanced before any creative decisions happen. A consistent base means the look lands the same way in every scene instead of fighting the footage.
Skin tones are the anchor
Whatever the palette, people have to look like people. We protect skin first and let the rest of the frame carry the mood.
Restraint ages well
Heavy trends date a film within a year. A restrained grade with one or two deliberate choices keeps the work feeling current long after it launches.
